Where Do Option Traders Live?
Have you ever wondered where option traders live?
As part of the Option Seller Lifestyle I have repeatedly mentioned that nowadays a trader can live and trade from basically anywhere on earth.
And so we did a little research to see if option traders are actually “all over the earth”. What we found was very interesting.
This is in no way a very scientific study or anything like that, but we did a simple scan to see where OptionGenius members live. We wanted to see how many countries are represented in the OptionGenius family.
Turns out there are a lot: We have members from 45 separate countries! See the list below.
Here are the conclusions I took from this?
1. The world is much smaller than I imagined or realized.
2. Not only are we trading against Wall Street but this is now a global game.
3. Technology will only make it easier to trade around the world in all markets and we need to be able to adapt and maybe trade other markets as well.
4. More and more people will be trading options. That is going to do wonders for liquidity.
Leave your comments below on what you think this globalization means for option trading.
Here is the list. If your country is not listed, leave a comment to let us know where you are trading from, then join OptionGenius :).
- United Arab Emirates
- Netherlands Antilles
- American Samoa
- Czech Republic
- United Kingdom
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand
- United States Minor Outlying Islands
Is there any significance to the order on the list? It’s nearly alphabetical, but UAE and Antilles at the top stick out strangely, and there are enough other “errors” that I wonder if there’s an underlying reason.
The countries are listed in alphabetical order based on the Country Code. Emirate is AE so it starts off.
You can add Belize for me.
How’d we miss that one!
Heard it is very beautiful there.
Put another check mark for Russia – my Russian wife and I spend 6 months in Pskov, Russia for spring summer and fall and while I don’t trade crude emini’s like I do in the states as I don’t trust the internet stability THAT much over there I do trade everything else from there.
How do you deal with the time difference?
taiwan seems to be missing to me. it was a person in taiwan that turned me on to your website.
As I see it, this global accessibility is not applicable to only Options trading. One can trade almost anything from anywhere. A reasonably reliable internet connection and an acct with IB (for example) opens up a lot of opportunities in markets and exchanges globally so long as one is not a daily trader/scalper.
I belong to India, live in Romania, travel frequently on work within CIS and EU. I do not even carry an Iphone/Blackberry/Ipad and most days my trading does not suffer for want of 24h inernet access.
Now, with Allen offering a trading system on options only on Thu/Fri it should become even simpler! Thank you, Allen, hope it is working well…!
Happy years ahead to all of you!
Thanks for the plug Burt!
Don’t forget : Saigon, Vietnam too
Quite evidently, option trading is accessible no matter where in the world you may be. Internet absolutely paved the way for a better and improved communication that allows transaction such as option trading.
whats the difference between american & european options???
American options can be exercised at any time. European options can only be exercised at expiration.
So true that this is a global game. It’s all very exciting isn’t it? To think that this has gone worldwide is amazing! Thanks for this post!
I found your website while a web research about option strategies and I was surprised. And affordable financial service which can produce contant income in options – perfect!
And the best:
It looks like that you are able to give answers at nearly all of my questions in front of an subscription only while I’m reading the pages “Home”, “Questions?” and “Strategies”.
I think, you can add next country at you list in next time: Germany. 🙂
I have an account with a U.S. option broker, but I would like to find an equivalent in Europe or Canada or Singapore (my preferences). Any suggestions will be appreciated. Obviously I’ll do my own due diligence. I checked IB domiciled in Sweden but they didn’t seem to do level 4.
